Siena to Monteroni d’Arbia
13.2 Miles; 5.75 Hours on the trail (Cumulative: 113.6 Miles; 55.4 Hours on the trail)

Leaving Siena, the Via Francigena took us through the Piazza del Campo one last time.

We headed south leaving Siena through the Porta Romana (Rome Gate) which was built in 1328.

After a bit, we hiked a short section along a busy road, then the Via Francigena put us on farm roads almost the entire time today.

Along the trail, we met three men from Norway. They are hiking the entire Via Francigena from Canterbury to Rome; but, in sections.

On this trek, they started in Switzerland & are going to Rome.
They want to hike the rugged Pacific Crest Trail in America, then buy a boat to sail back to Norway.
I noted to one man that I saw his pack had a metal frame, so it must be very old. He told me it was from WWII.

We walked by a couple starting to harvest their olives. The man is using a portable handheld device to shake the branches to get the olives to fall into the nets on the ground to be collected.

Lots of wide open spaces & rolling hills today.

Saw this sign by a house with cute decorations.

Some farmers have cut, dried, & baled their hay & put it up to store for the winter.
